  • Resources cited in the 2021 Epic Vocal Workout album liner notes:

  • Looking for some Musical Theatre tunes to add to your rep? I’ve got playlists for that!

    • Early Book Musicals These are musicals from the 20’s-40’s that don’t have enduring plotlines but outstanding songs. These tunes can be transposed to suit any voice type and are gender fluid in characterization. They often double as traditional music theatre rep and as jazz standards so interpretation is open.

    • Golden Era Women These are musicals from the post-war era and through roughly 1960. Rogers & Hammerstein feature prominently, although there are many other great, underrepresented composers on this playlist as well. Traditionally these roles are played by women (not exclusively cis women in 2020, thankfully) and would be sung by female identifying folks in an audition setting as well. However, these songs go well on the bandstand and would be gender fluid and openly interpreted in that context.

    • Golden Era Men These are musicals from the same era as above, 1945-1960. These roles are traditionally performed by male identifying folks. Consider whether you are looking for tunes for auditions or for a band setting.
